In this letter to Joan Riviere, Winnicott describes his gradual recovery and convalescence from a heart attack (he had two in 1949) which interfered with the giving of a paper to the Society. He sends her a copy of the paper in full, and mentions the proposed closure of his hospital Paddington Green, which he has also had to fight against, despite his poor health.
