This chapter discusses the importance of college and career to the young adult. It differentiates between young adulthood and emerging adulthood, and explores the choices between college and career, and the unique developmental challenges and their mental health implications (such as academic/occupational stress, intrapersonal/interpersonal stress, and financial stress), and the impact of mental illness on academic and occupational functioning.
