The frontal tests available in the literature for assessment of abstraction abilities are discussed. For each test, the evidence for localization of abstraction processes within the various frontal subregions is considered, including the findings from patient and lesion studies as well as neuroimaging studies. The effects of healthy adult aging on tests tapping abstraction abilities are also discussed.
