This chapter describes challenges service members face after returning home from deployment. These include existential issues, behaviors and reactions learned in combat, and emotional and behavioral symptoms that develop in responses to combat stress. This chapter focuses on adjustment issues and symptoms rather than psychiatric disorders such as PTSD.
