Families are key in the recovery process because they love the person with the illness, care for them, and want to help. But stress in a family can sometimes start to break down communication between family members. Certain symptoms of psychosis can also make communication difficult at times. It is vital to create a supportive family environment by reducing stress, coping, and communicating effectively. It is impossible to get rid of all stressors because some are just a natural part of life or trying to reach personal goals. Learning to manage stress is important to everyone’s mental and physical health. Working together to develop better ways of handling stress strengthens relationships and improves the quality of life for everyone in the family. Effective communication helps to improve relationships, resulting in fewer conflicts and unresolved disagreements.
