This chapter discusses the importance and method of recordkeeping, looking at ways to objectively record panic, anxiety, and other moods. Learning to be an observer as opposed to a victim of one’s own anxiety is a first step toward gaining control. Through recordkeeping, one will learn to observe when, where, and under what circumstances one’s panic and anxiety occur. One will also learn to understand the way in which one experiences panic and anxiety, in terms of what one thinks, what one feels, and what one does. This understanding is important because this program is designed specifically to change anxious thinking, anxious feelings, and anxious behaviors. Finally, recording helps one to evaluate progress. The chapter then looks at the three forms of recording panic and anxiety: Your Panic Attack Record, Your Daily Mood Record, and Your Progress Record.
