In this review, written with Masud Khan, Winnicott describes Bowlby as ranging ‘widely over the subject, giving us the benefit of his experience which is enriched by his study of the literature’. Winnicott judges the chapter on theoretical problems unsatisfactory. Theoretical statements in the other chapters are much more satisfying although more popularly phrased.
