In this address, Winnicott as President of the BPAS welcomes Margaret Mead, President of the World Federation Mental Health, as speaker to the eighth Ernest Jones lecture. He describes his own first meeting with Jones before emphasising the value of Mead’s contributions to the understanding of the mother-infant relation.
