This chapter discusses the current state of knowledgeregarding the epidemiology of eating disorders, and reviews the currently employed diagnostic criteria. The course and the complicationsare discussed, along with the etiology. It explores why these disorders maybe so common among young adults. Finally, thecurrent status of treatment is examined.
