Chapter 5 discusses the initiation of the exercise program. A screening questionnaire is used to assess readiness to commence the exercise program, as well as determine the right activities to include. The recommended public health guidelines for exercise are outlined, including heart rate guidelines. An example initial exercise schedule is presented, along with information on pacing exercise sessions, when to exercise, addressing barriers to exercise, and using exercise logs.
