In this introductory chapter, the authors provide a broad overview of scholarship in the area of sexual orientation, gender identity (SOGI), and schooling, including a brief historical context for understanding research, practice, and policy in this area. They introduce the book, providing background about its origins and development and the goals and themes that informed each of the chapters. The authors provide an overview of and context for the chapters, and describe their hopes for what the presented work will accomplish as a collection. The authors’ broadest goal is to advance SOGI social justice in schooling through strengthening the nexus of research, practice, and policy.
