This chapter discusses the ethics codes that psychologists-psychoanalysts are expected to follow in different settings by exploring practice competencies that require introspectiveness, while following the requirements of law and regulation. A table that compares and examines the code of ethics of two major organizations—the American Psychological Association (APA) and the American Psychoanalytic Association (APsaA)—that represent the professional interests of psychologists-psychoanalysts. The codes share considerable common ground, however, the APA code applies to all psychologists irrespective of specialty practice area. The APsaA code applies only to those practicing psychoanalysis. The codes differ primarily in terms of the organization of principles within the code. Worth noting is that avoidance of exploitation is a listed as a principle in the APasP code, while this is implied throughout the APA code. is presented, as well as some common questions based on a code of ethics. The reader will have a better understanding of the underpinnings that provide the solution to ethical dilemmas.
