This chapter presents an introduction to the title as a whole. It uses clinical vignettes to illustrate how social cognitive deficits can impact the social relationships and occupational functioning of individuals with schizophrenia, defines social cognition, its differences from neurocognition, the domains of social cognition, issues in the measurement of social cognition in schizophrenia, and the general structure of the title.
